Péter Magyar, a former member of the Hungarian government's inner circle, has become the main opposition challenger to Viktor Orbán's government after a series of events led to his expulsion from the ruling party's exclusive club, Stádium. Magyar's transformation from a loyal supporter to a fierce critic of the government began years ago in Brussels, where he worked as a diplomat and developed a confrontational personality. His divorce from Judit Varga, a prominent government minister, further strained his relationships with key government figures, including Gergely Gulyás, a close friend and minister. Magyar's decision to go public with his criticisms of the government and its handling of a corruption case led to a major backlash, but also propelled him to the forefront of the opposition. He has since founded a new party, Tisza, which has gained significant support and is now ahead of Fidesz in the polls.
